PANCAKE DAY
The tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday began as it was a way of "indulging" prior to Lent. Lent is a period in the Christian calendar that traditionally demanded abstinence, or giving up, luxuries - such as eggs, butter, milk, flour.
So having pancakes the day before Lent begins was a good way to clear those items and remove the temptation to eat them during the Lent period.
Have a look at our recipes for different pancakes ... savoury and sweet ... and don't forget the simple pleasure of serving lemon and sugar on pancakes!
